There are two types of steel casting according to the chemical composition. They are:

Carbon Steel:

Carbon steels are exceptional kinds of steel since they have a higher concentration of carbon. Also, it has types: low carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel. With this, it gives much more advantages to its clients. Carbon steels are durable and stronger when contrasted with conventional steels. It is more impervious to pressure. This sort of cast steel is being utilized in ventures like automotive and construction.

Generally, low carbon steel has a higher liquefying point, yet has a poor casting performance. It is simply used to produce engine parts or carburized parts.

Medium carbon steel has exhaustive properties higher than a wide range of cast iron. That is a high strength, brilliant flexibility and sturdiness. Hence, it is reasonable for producing pieces with complex shapes, high strength, and sturdiness. For example, train wheels, hammer stands, rolls, and high-pressure valves. It is the most broadly utilized type of carbon cast steel.

The high carbon steel has a low liquefying point. Its casting performance is superior to that of medium carbon steel. Yet, its flexibility and strength are poor. It is simply useful to produce a couple of wear parts.

Alloy Steel:

Alloy steels are shaped when components that are made out of metals and nonmetals are joined together with carbon steels. These are useful in numerous industries like mining, autos, street development, etc.

Alloy cast steel can be separated into two classes: low alloy steel and high alloy steel.

(1) Low alloy cast steel: It basically utilizes manganese series, manganese silicon series and chromium series. It is useful to make parts like gears, water powered press working chambers and pressure driven turbine rotors.

(2) High alloy cast steel: It has extraordinary properties like wear obstruction, heat proof and erosion obstruction. It is predominantly useful to make parts utilized under dry grating working conditions. Chromium-nickel tempered steel and chromium hardened steel have a high erosion protection from nitric acid. It is essentially useful in the making of petroleum, chemical, compound fiber, food and other hardware parts.

While the two types of steel casting are valuable and popular, they are different in terms of properties. Alloy steels are more erosion safe than carbon steels. But, its durability and toughness are less compared to carbon steel. There are many differentiating properties and components between carbon steels and alloy steels. At last, both are highly helpful according to the requirements.
